MoeBIOS is driving innovation in bioplastics recycling! During the recent European Bioplastics (EUBP) Talks, our project took center stage in a discussion about thermochemical recycling technologies. David Costa from GREENE shared valuable insights on how pyrolysis and gasification can transform bioplastic waste into renewable energy sources.
Transforming bioplastics waste: a sustainable solution
The demand for sustainable plastic waste management is growing. As a result, thermochemical recycling is gaining attention as a promising solution. This method uses heat and chemical reactions to break down bioplastics into valuable materials like syngas and hydrogen. These resources can then be repurposed for energy production and industrial use.
David Costa’s presentation explored how GREENE and GREENE W2H2 are implementing these technologies. He also addressed key challenges and opportunities, emphasizing the potential of thermochemical processes in bioplastics recycling.
Why does thermochemical recycling matter?
✔ Reduces bioplastics waste: Converts plastic waste into reusable chemicals.
✔ Produces renewable energy: Generates hydrogen and syngas for energy applications.
✔ Enhances circular economy: Promotes sustainability by closing the materials loop.
✔ Scalable & innovative: Provides an industrial-scale solution for bioplastics recycling.
