The future of plastics is bio-based, but is the future of recycling ready? Companies invest heavily in new sustainable materials, yet the question of their final destination—true circularity—often remains unanswered. However, the rapid adoption of innovative materials brings a significant challenge: how do we ensure these materials achieve a truly circular end-of-life (EoL)? Currently, dedicated, optimized recycling pathways for many bioplastics (such as PLA, PHA, PBS, and PEF) are scarce or non-existent at industrial scales. This gap risks the promise of a bio-based economy and burdens waste management systems.

Ecomondo is a premier European trade show dedicated to the green and circular economy. It focuses on themes like waste management, recycling, renewable energy, and resource efficiency. Held annually in Rimini, Italy, consequently, it serves as a critical marketplace for technical solutions, industrial innovation, and policy debate in environmental sustainability.
MoeBIOS Presents Solutions at Ecomondo’s Textile District
Our partner, Next Technology Tecnotessile (NTT), participated in this essential forum. They hosted a dedicated stand in the Textile District, the area focusing on sustainable and circular textile innovations. During the event, NTT staff engaged directly with professionals and researchers from the textile sector. They actively facilitated the exchange of perspectives on industry challenges and promoted a more sustainable and circular value chain. The MoeBIOS project attracted strong interest from visitors at the Ecomondo stand.
The team explained the project’s holistic approach: it goes beyond developing advanced sorting systems. Specifically, we aim to create tangible value from bio-based waste by defining viable end-of-life options and recycling pathways. This initiative demonstrates a systemic commitment to reducing landfill waste and extending material lifecycle. Ultimately, we lay the industrial groundwork to make bio-based textile recycling a reality.
